Santa Margherita Ligure | Light on the Riviera

It’s easy to see why artists are drawn here.

The way the light lingers on facades,

how colour leans towards warmth without insisting,

and how even the shadows feel carefully placed.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries,

painters came in search of light;

not just to illuminate their canvases,

but to soften their thinking.

As I trace scattered sketches along the cascading shoreline,

the air is suddenly brushed with the scent of ease —

a gentle melody of pebbles dancing with receding aqua blue.

Moments quietly blend into each other.

And I find myself wondering

whether this sense of quiet belonging,

this breath of being,

will settle the

terracotta hue

and temper the midday light.
